I am so blessed to have a wonderful man in my life who loves these things as well. Our travels together are fun and we love learning about things and their history.
Being a REALTOR only enhances my desire for beautiful workmanship. My love for architecture began as a child when I would draw home designs for fun. When I saw the Waggoner Mansion I could only say "Jeff stop the car! I've got to take pictures!" The beauty for me was breathtaking.
The Keep Out Private Property signs posted everywhere was the only thing that kept us from walking to the front door to the tell the homeowner we thought their home was beautiful. Then the internet gave way to history that has kept us captivated in reading for 24 hours now.
This isn't just a pretty home. It is one of the grandest Victorian Homes still remaining in Texas. The El Castile is the original home of the cattle king and later oil baron, Dan Waggoner. It was left to his son and business partner WT Waggoner and is now owned by the Luker family.
From what I've read it is still 90% preserved from its original building in 1883 and still in good condition on the interior. The home has 16 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms and 8 fireplaces. It was constructed with solid poriferous limestone. The iron work and windows are all original to the home.

If you are ever in Decatur we recommend you driving by to see this spectacular home. We also recommend Sweetie Pies Steakhouse downtown. Lunch was fabulous and PBR Unfinished Business was incredible! I would love to return to Decatur to enjoy antiquing.
The architecture reminds me so much of the beach victorian home I raised my children in located in Destin, FL |
